Sarasota Bay
Great action on the flats of Sarasota Bay this past week. Anglers Bruce, Gary, and Jeff of Lakeland, FL had a great day of fishing around White Key on Sarasota Bay. While wade fishing the edge of a deep grass flat, throwing the Rip Tide 3″ Mullet, all three anglers caught and released many good spotted sea trout up to 25″ along with some nice slot redfish. The late afternoon tides seem to be producing the best bite. The afternoon sea breeze we have had lately is making it a bit difficult for kayak fishing, so the best way to deal with these windy conditions while fishing out of a kayak is to get out and wade fish the flats. A couple of things I like to carry is a 10′ piece of rope with a carabiner attached at each end. With this I can leave one end attached to the kayak the other end attached to myself. The benefit of having this setup is most importantly safety, and It keeps my kayak close by which has all my gear, tackle and cell phone handy while stalking the flats. This is much better than walking back a couple hundred yards to find that your anchor pulled and your kayak has blown away. I know this from experience. Not good. A good pair of wading boots will also be very important. You can't always see what lies beneath. Sting Rays, rocks, oysters and other critters can ruin your day.flor Steve Gibson 941-256-5833 www.shallowpocketsfishing.com |

Charter with Tom Ayers
Great morning on Sarasota Bay with Tom Ayars. Tom caught and released his first Redfish as well as some good Speckled Trout. The conditions were not favorable. We had a very short window first thing in the morning before a front was upon us. Most of the fish today were caught on the Heddon One Knocker as well as soft plastics under a popping cork.
